Train or 電車 (densha in japanese) has it’s own cult followers. Just like anime, train obsessed otakus can be found anywhere throughout Japan. The Oikawa Railways is one of the place where these otakus often come to gather. What attracts them the most is of course the charcoal-fueled Steam Locomotive train, or better known as SL.
I’ve went there with Giro for a visit.
From the windows of these trains, Japan beautiful sights like the abundant river of Oigawa and the vast tea plantation can be seen. I assure you, the sceneries are absolutely breathtaking.
In these trains, they have special conductors (mostly old women, sadly). They visit cabins, talking about the attractions of the Oigawa river, something about the history of the railway, a bit about Shizuoka, and the most “ridiculous” one is, they even do play harmonica for us. Hahah!
